Hythe Life Photographic Competition 2019: The Results

We always knew that Hythe Life readers were a talented bunch but we were overwhelmed by the quality and number of entries that we received for our inaugural photographic competition. The brief was to create a snapshot of Hythe in 2018/19: all photographs had to be taken within the CT21 postcode within the last 12 months. You captured everything from landscapes and landmarks to flora and fauna – and did so in ways that were by turns creative, spectacular, humorous and moving.

The judges had a tough job on their hands, with more than 125 entries to assess; the main criterion was to pick out the photos that had both the ‘X’ and ‘wow’ factors. So many pictures very nearly made the cut but just missed out, but after much discussion, we came up with our twelve winning photographs. We wanted to showcase the very best of Hythe – and we think our photographers have done that rather splendidly. We hope that you’ll agree that there’s something special about them, but we loved seeing all your entries, so please keep snapping our lovely town!

All twelve of the short-listed photographs will be featured in Hythe Life’s limited edition 2020 calendar (another first for us!) but particular congratulations are due to Russ Asanov, whose evocative image of a fishing boat on Hythe beach was crowned ‘Champion of Champions’.

The calendar will be on sale at various outlets including our HQ, Saltwood General Stores, until Christmas. As with all our other events and activities, all profits will be distributed to local causes and charities.
